Strengthening Cybersecurity: The Imperative of Multi-Factor Authentication to Prevent Data Breaches
In recent breaches of Snowflake customers like AT&T and Ticketmaster, Snowflake stated that the breaches were caused by poorly secured customer accounts which did not have Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) implemented. The lack of MFA appears to be how cybercriminals downloaded huge amounts of data from Snowflake customers’ environments, which weren’t protected by the additional security layer.
To protect against any such security related events and reduce the risk of security breaches, PROS strongly recommends that our customers implement MFA on all PROS User accounts.
MFA benefits:
- Mitigates security risks by requiring an additional form of authentication beyond just a password.
- Helps to comply with stringent regulatory standards like PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR, which often mandate enhanced authentication measures
- Protection from compromised passwords: With 80% of security breaches involving compromised passwords, MFA serves as a safeguard, ensuring that even if a password is stolen, the attacker still needs the second factor to gain access
- MFA is a cornerstone of modern cybersecurity strategies, ensuring that sensitive data remains protected in an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.
All PROS customers already use single sign-on for use authentication. Adding MFA to your authentication process can be handled internally by your IT Department.
